In the business of growth
When we started Promised Land Gardening in 2021, the name felt right, even though we couldn’t fully explain everything it meant to us. As we’ve watched our business grow, we’ve come to appreciate a simple connection: we are in the business of growth.
At its heart, a gardener’s work is to create the conditions that allow living things to thrive. That idea captures what we want to do—for your property, for our team, and for the company we’re building together.
When you invite us to your home, you have something you want to improve. Maybe it’s a garden that needs attention, a space you haven’t quite figured out, or a landscape you love but need help maintaining. Our job is to listen, bring thoughtful ideas and practical experience, and put in the work to help your property reach its potential.
Jen brings a gardener’s heart to that process. She sees the possibilities in a space and enjoys choosing the plants, colors, and textures that bring it to life. Joshua and our crew bring the planning, practical skills, and determination to carry those ideas through. Together, those strengths shape the way we serve our customers.

Meet Your Lead Designer, Jennifer Garland
Jennifer’s passion for plants took root early in life, inspired by her grandmother’s love for nurturing greenery in her backyard vegetable garden. She discovered the joy of watching plants thrive and the unique beauty each species brings. These formative experiences sparked a lifelong dedication to horticulture, which she later refined through formal training in England. Her creativity and deep expertise serve as the foundation for the stunning, bespoke landscapes we create today.
Driven by her passion, she pursued an apprenticeship at the Colonial Gardens in Williamsburg, where she mastered foundational horticultural skills. From there, she expanded her knowledge through greenhouse cultivation and estate gardening at Ladew Gardens. Each experience offered a new perspective, enriching her understanding of horticulture.
Today, Jennifer channels her wealth of knowledge and hands-on expertise into her work at Promised Land Gardening, crafting exquisite designs and delivering exceptional fine gardening services. Her journey is a testament to the beauty of lifelong learning and growth, reflected in every landscape she touches.

Joshua’s journey to landscaping began with a background in fitness, bringing energy and discipline to the team.
